Description

I have finally completed my half of a trade with :iconleccathufurvicael:, a wonderful artist who was kind enough to do a drawing of my husband's dragon character, Maelstrom. I took too long and still managed to make too many errors, but overall, I am pleased with it and I hope that she will be, too. :)

Leccathu is the first dragon character which I have made a repeat attempt at. My first attempt can be seen here, since I have had a number of people ask where I kept a picture of it. ;) So without boring you further, here's what I think the pros and cons of this piece are:

Pros:

1. Standing on four legs, solidly, not wobbly, well supported, and overall awesome. ;)
2. The most anatomical (musculature) detail that I have ever worked into a sculpture. Much thanks to Leccathu for amazing reference works...which I will likely continue to use in order to improve on anatomy for all future dragonish sculptures.
3. The wing position. It took a lot of work, wire, and patience to get them to hold parallel to the ground without "over-beefing" the joints.
4. One of the most detailed paint jobs that I have yet done. All colors excluding the dark brown were custom mixed by me, and (I think) are more true-to-actual colors than previous sculpture.

Cons:

1. Forelegs appear too narrow from the front.
2. Head appears to wide from the front. I think it looks great from the side, and didn't notice a problem until after I painted it.
3. I forgot the little ridge of scales along her lower jaw. :doh:x's 2
4. I managed to forget to paint the undersides of her paws and wing-hands in a whitish coat. :doh:x's 3
5. I didn't extend the tail spikes down the tail far enough. :doh:x's 4

But, yeah, overall, I am happy. :)

Macro horn reference shots are available here, since I did have a request for that.

Aluminum foil, armature wire, super sculpey, and acrylics.

That's Leccathu, alright! You are so talented with these sculptures, you really capture the dragons' spirits. This one is particularly stunning for a number of reasons, but primarily because you nailed the details and features of Lec that make her so unpique (her horns, her tail, that broad face!).

Excellent job!
