Description

You didn't think that I went and forgot to upload the finished product, now did you? :)

So here he is, the dragon character creature himself; the one and only ~Kresketh! A gift art piece that is part of a long line of sculptures that I will be whipping up as I work my way through an extensive list that's on my plate right now.

I don't think that I really missed anything on this piece so far as details provided to me by the recipient. I'm really quite pleased with this piece overall, as I think it is my best to date. I can't take full credit for that, though, as I did have some ridiculously good reference pictures to work from.

I was told to work this sculpture into a pose of good-natured mischievousness, which I think worked out pretty well. The eyes and the blue spots are painted in pearlescent paint, though that doesn't show up all that well. The toes are also a dark brown color and not black (like they look in the photo). The wings are nothing standard and were quite a challenge, though extremely entertaining to construct.

This is the largest single sculpture that I have ever done to date; almost used a whole pound of clay for once. I know I still have anatomical detailing to work on and refine, but if there is one thing that I learned from this piece, it's that I suck at painting sculptures. Does anyone have any advice? Anyone can slap a layer of paint down, but how do you go about really bringing out the contours and anatomy rather than masking it? Any and all comments, critiques, and suggestions welcome and appreciated as always.

Super Sculpey over aluminum foil and armature wire; painted with Delta Ceramcoat paints and varnish.
